Sockeyes look to rebound in Tunnel Series
Richmond Sockeyes are looking to catch a
break.
Trailing the Delta Ice Hawks 2 games to 0 in
the Pacific Junior Hockey League Tom Shaw Conference playoff final, the
Sockeyes are hoping to net a win when the best-of-seven series resumes Tuesday
at 7:30 p.m. at Ladner Leisure Centre.
The Hawks took advantage of home ice Sunday
in Delta, winning Game 2 by a 3-2 score. They built up a 2-0 first period lead,
added a goal in the first two minutes of the middle frame, and then held on.
Tyler Andrews on a first period powerplay and
Jordan Funk late in the second accounted for the Sockeyes’ scoring. Despite 16
shots in the third, they were unable to get the equalizer past Delta keeper
Jordan Naylor.
Delta also got an early lead in Game 1, a 4-2
Hawks’ victory, March 1 in Richmond. They led 1-0 after a period and 3-2 after
40 minutes.
Brett Gelz scored once and assisted on Trevor
Townsend’s goal late in the second period for the Sockeyes.
Game 4 is set for 7 p.m. at Minoru Arenas
this Thursday.
