Hannah Green is heading to the Maritimes.

The Grade 12 R.A. McMath Secondary School student will continue her hockey career next season as a member of the University of New Brunswick Reds after signing a university sports intent.

“Having the opportunity to play university hockey has been a goal of mine for years,” said the 17-year-old blueliner and captain of the BC Hockey Female midget AAA league Comets. “Now I get the chance to not only play, but be a part of a legacy.”

The Comets currently boast a 13-1 record, with Green recording three goals and four assists in 14 games. Last season, Green and the Comets captured the league title and were Esso Cup regional finalists.

“With Hannah, we’re excited to bring more mobility and leadership to our back-end,” said Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth, a product of the BC Hockey system herself. “Hannah has the ability to control the game from a defensive perspective with her skating and confident puck handling.”

Earlier this year, Green attended Team BC’s ‘Top 40’ training camp.

“Hannah is a mature young woman that will bring more leadership into our room,” said Hilworth. “We’ve been fortunate to bring in a number of current minor hockey captains, so I know Hannah will not only fit in, but help shape our culture going forward.”

Green plans on studying kinesiology.
