Richmond Kajaks sprinters got the chance to hang briefly with one of the world’s fastest men Wednesday.

After racing against Andre De Grasse in the men’s 4 x 100-metre relay during the 2018 Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic at Swangard Stadium, Serge Serbinenko, Tanin Seward, Liam McLeod and Carson Bradley proudly gathered for a keepsake photo with the Canadian Olympian. De Grasse and his Team Canada teammates won the Canada/China Challenge race in a meet record 38.42 seconds, with China second in 39.62. The young Kajaks placed sixth in 44.28 seconds.

De Grasse, 23, won the silver medal in the 200 metres and bronze medals in the 100 metre and 4 x 100-metre relay races at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Kajaks teams also earned a pair of first-place finishes and a fifth at the Harry Jerome Classic. The junior development under-13 men and women won their respective relay races, with the under-11s fifth.

Kajaks’ jumper Eric Che was a scholarship recipient at the Jerome meet.
