Hugh McRoberts senior boys soccer team didn't let a little rain dampen their enthusiasm.

After an undefeated season, the Strikers won city bragging rights last week with a 2-1 win over the McNair Marlins.

On Thursday, they beat the Notre Dame Jugglers in a game that saw few shots and even fewer quality chances.

Both teams played sound defence, and neither offence could muster much more than a long strike from well outside the box by McRoberts' Ryan Heroux, and a handful of free kicks by each team that were all turned away by the quality defenders.

After no scoring during regulation or extra time, the game went to penalty kicks to determine who would bring home the Vancouver and District banner to their school.

And it was McRoberts who came out on top after Grade 12 goalie Daniel Judkowicz made two saves, and four Strikers found the back of the net, with the title-clinching goal by Grade 10 Saif Ali Pasha.

McRoberts has the foundation for some long-term success on the pitch, with many key contributors on this year's team still in Grade 9, 10 and 11.
