Richmond RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the owner of an urn discovered in Terra Nova Park on Sept. 20.

The small, pearl-coloured, polished container was discovered by city employees who were cleaning the park that morning.  According to the city worker who turned it over to police, the urn was sitting in a plastic bag, partially buried in the soil, near a fence on the east side of the park.

When the attending frontline officer opened the urn, she found what appeared to be cremated remains inside. At this time, it’s unclear how the urn ended up there.

“Because it was wrapped in plastic and partially buried in the soil, it appears to have been placed there intentionally,” says Cpl. Ian Henderson. “But it seems like an odd place to leave the urn.”

Police are hoping the urn’s rightful owner will come forward to have it returned for proper interment.

“I know if the urn contained my loved one—pet or otherwise—I wouldn’t want it moved about. I’d want it back,” says Henderson.

Anyone who may have information on this matter is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
