A boy on his way to school yesterday was allegedly offered candy by a man in a white van.

The incident took place in a laneway near the 10400 block of Seacote Road between 8:05 and 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The boy did not engage with the man and immediately left the area and went to school, where he reported the incident to school officers.

“This boy did exactly what he should have. He stayed away from the vehicle, got himself to a safe place and reported it”, says Cpl. Adriana Peralta. “We want to remind parents of the importance of talking to your children about strangers.”

Video surveillance of the area has identified a possible vehicle of interest: a white Econoline van from the early 2000s with windows on all sides. The driver is described as a Caucasian man around 20 years old with long brown or blonde hair, a pimple on his forehead, a scar on the left side of his face and wearing a black T-shirt.

Police continue to patrol the area and canvass for additional video footage.

Anyone who may have witnessed or recognize this vehicle is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-33014. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
