Richard Vetter has stepped up to the plate as
the new chair of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives.
Replacing longtime board chair Pat Watson who
chose to step down this year, Vetter is the board’s former vice chair.
Vetter’s election coincides with those of 15
other volunteers, including community and business leaders from a variety of
backgrounds, introduced at the local charity’s 47th annual general meeting June
19. Together, the board will be responsible for governing RCRG over the next
year.
“With the board, our organization is in
excellent hands,” says Ed Gavsie, president and chief executive officer of
RCRG. “There’s a mix of experience and perspectives, skills and leadership
styles. Each board member brings something unique to the table.”
The group features 12 returning members and
four new directors who were recruited in recent months. The directors are:
Christine Campbell, Rick Duff, Jasnique Gill-Nahal, Zinnia Johnston, Angela
Lam, Lisa MacNeil, Candice Oye, Jordan Oye, Charmaine Ponnambalam, Lawrie
Portigal, Jat Puri, Rebecca Swaim, Richard Vetter, Ray Wang, Lisa Wong and
Melissa Zhang.“RCRG’s staying power is a testament to the combined efforts of
our board Members, staff, and volunteers,” says Gavsie. “The people behind the
organization, from top to bottom, are the ones who keep it evergreen.”
Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives is a
registered charity that serves as a hub for volunteering and giving. RCRG is
also a direct service provider, operating a child care resource and referral
centre, the Richmond Christmas Fund and a variety of seniors community support
services.
