If you live in a group living setting, where many people who aren’t in the same family unit live together, you may be at an elevated risk of acquiring or transmitting COVID-19.

The Government of Canada is recommending some safety tips to people who live in these settings, which include:

  • industrial camps
  • student residences
  • construction trailers
  • closed settings, such as residential care, correctional facilities or longterm care facilities
  • agricultural worker dormitories
  • overnight camps for children and teens
  • group homes for people with disabilities
  • shelters for people experiencing homelessness

These settings may include vulnerable and at risk populations with a higher chance for serious illness. Adapted public health measures can help prevent COVID-19 from entering and spreading in these settings.

The government has developed sets of guidelines for some facilities, as well as providing more information. Guidelines can be accessed here.
