As the weekend approaches, provincial health officials are urging British Columbians to “stay strong and hold the line.”

“We have it within our ability to make the changes we need to bend our pandemic curve back down and continue in our BC restart, but it takes the combined efforts of everyone, not just a few,” they said today.

BC health officials also announced 84 new cases of COVID-19 in the province, the fourth highest total since the start of the pandemic. Two of the new cases are epidemiologically-linked.

There have now been 4,358 cases in BC, and 629 of those are active cases. Twelve people are hospitalized, four of whom are in intensive care.

Additionally, 2,026 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

There were no new deaths reported today, but one new healthcare facility outbreak in the Fraser Health region at Queen’s Park Care Centre. In total, seven longterm care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care facilities have active outbreaks.

There were also no new community outbreaks. However, there continue to be community exposure events around the province and on flights into and out of BC.

Health officials said ongoing surveillance and enforcement operations have resulted in the closure of several bars, restaurants and nightclubs in the Vancouver Coastal Health region following transmission events. Some of the shutdowns were voluntary, and others occurred because of a public health order.
