YVR celebrates American Airlines' new Chicago service
Famous for its outdoor public art, theatre
companies, shopping and restaurants—and as home to two Major League Baseball
teams—Chicago is now more accessible than ever to the West Coast.
American Airlines recently began non-stop,
daily service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Chicago’s O’Hare
International Airport (ORD). The service is conveniently timed to connect with
American Airlines’ extensive domestic and international schedule from their hub
in Chicago. It complements their current flights from YVR to Dallas/Forth
Worth, Los Angeles and Phoenix and is part of American Airlines’ strategy to
strength service in Canada this year.
“We’re thrilled that American Airlines is
introducing a new service to Chicago from YVR,” said Anne Murray, vice-president
of marketing and communications at Vancouver Airport Authority. “Chicago is a
popular destination for leisure travel and business. The addition of this daily
flight between Vancouver and Chicago provides travellers with even more options
to the Midwest region of the U.S.”
Chicago is the largest city in Illinois and O’Hare
is one of the world’s busiest airports. For those travelling on from American
Airlines’ hub in Chicago, the flight is conveniently timed to connect with
their extensive domestic and international schedule at O’Hare. The flight
departs YVR at 11 p.m. and arrives at O’Hare at 5:14 a.m. the next day. The
return flight leaves ORD at 8:35 p.m. and arrives at YVR at 11:14 p.m.
“American has proudly served Vancouver for
more than 30 years and Chicago will become a great addition to our existing
network,” said Sean Lee, American Airlines general manager for YVR. “There is
growing demand for travel between the U.S. and Canada and American is meeting
that demand with a great product, operated by the best team that can connect
travellers to the largest network in the world.”
The route is operated on a Boeing 737-800
with seat capacity for 160 passengers, featuring 16 business class recliner
seats, 30 main cabin extra seats, and 114 standard economy seats. This new service benefits the local economy with close to 50 new jobs and contributes $4.7
million to B.C.’s GDP.
New services such as this are made possible
thanks to YVR’s five-year rates and charges program, ConnectYVR. The program provides
a highly competitive rate structure and includes rates lower than any other
major airport in Canada and competing U.S. airports.
