The province is aiming to reduce cycling collisions by increasing the fee for “dooring.”

The term for opening the door of a parked car when not reasonably safe to do so, anyone “dooring” will face a $368 fine—more than quadruple the current amount. The increased fine will take effect Sept. 21.

“Dooring can cause serious injury, and the new fine reflects that,” said Transportation Minister Claire Trevena. “But it is preventable, which is why we are also investing in public education. We want to make sure everyone who uses the roads does so safely.”
