Two men have been arrested in Richmond in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Just before 6 a.m. last Thursday, a red Nissan pick-up truck was reportedly stolen from the 9300 block of Glenacres Drive.

Officers from the Richmond RCMP property crime unit followed the vehicle through several neighbourhoods, but waited until the men exited the vehicle before approaching for reasons of public safety. The men were arrested without incident.

This is exactly why officers join the property crime unit, says Sgt. Simon Lee, NCO in charge of the targeted enforcement units. They are passionate about finding and arresting those who are committing these offences.

Charges have since been laid against James Bonney and Stephen Davis. Both men have been charged with possession of property under $5,000 obtained by crime and possession of break-in instrument. Davis was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Richmond.

If you see something and you think it’s suspicious, call it in, says Sgt. Lee. We are actively out there, but the more eyes we have watching out for suspicious activities the better. In this case a citizen keeping a watchful eye out on his community alerted police to the original theft of the vehicle, which ultimately resulted in the successful arrest of two people.

Anyone who may have witnessed or have information regarding this incident is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-18921. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
