Richmond city council is expanding its technical capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At last night’s general purposes committee meeting—which was held virtually—councillors agreed to add school board liaison meetings and development permit panel meetings to city council’s live stream.

“During COVID times, staff is directed to enable us to have meetings eventually, post-COVID, in the Anderson Room,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

When the pandemic is over, committee meetings will resume in the Anderson Room, which will require several upgrades—including the installation of cameras—for live streaming. Discussion ensued about the cost of these potential upgrades, and staff were directed to examine budgetary implications.
