The City of Richmond is proud to announce that three Richmond Regional Heritage Fair students will represent their region at the 2019 BC Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria from Wednesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 7. In early May, 120 students from 12 Richmond schools presented their projects at the Richmond Regional Heritage Fair.

The BC Provincial Heritage Fair will bring together 65 students from the 13 regions of British Columbia. The students will enjoy a program of fun, historical activities including visits to Goldstream Provincial Park, Fort Rodd Hill, BC Legislature, Ross Bay Cemetery, Chinatown, and the Robert Bateman Gallery. One of the highlights of the Fair will be the public showcase of student projects at the Royal British Columbia Museum on Saturday, July 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

These projects were selected for their excellence, thoughtful consideration of historical significance, extensive research and creative project display. These students embody the qualities of a historian and are keen to share their knowledge with fellow Canadians.

The students and projects proudly representing Richmond are:

• Bird Watching in BC by Raymond Liu, Grade 4, General Currie Elementary School

• Early Sikh Settlement by Jayden Dulay, Grade 5, Gilmore Elementary School

• Sikh Canadians by Amrit Singh, Grade 9, Cambie Secondary School

As part of the nation-wide Heritage Fairs program, over 500 students in Richmond created project displays on a wide range of topics drawn from Canada’s unique and diverse history and heritage. One hundred projects were selected for showcase at the Richmond Regional Heritage Fair, presented by the Richmond Museum on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. At the Closing Ceremony, 21 awards were presented by Mayor Brodie and other local officials.
