The City of Richmond is supporting residents displaced by a fire that destroyed the upper floor of a residential building near Seventh Avenue and Broadway Street in Steveston last night.

An Emergency Reception Centre was set up shortly after the incident to assist affected residents. Several individuals received emergency support services, including temporary lodging and essential needs.

Displaced residents seeking information about assistance, next steps, or available support services are to contact the Canadian Red Cross whose volunteers are currently at the Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton Street) until 6:30 p.m. today (Wednesday December 3.) Residents may also call the Canadian Red Cross at 1-888-800-6493.

The city thanks the public for their generosity and concern for those impacted by the fire. Those wishing to support displaced community members are asked not to bring food, household items, or other donations to the Steveston Community Centre or the affected building complex. Instead, contact the Canadian Red Cross at 1-888-800-6493 for guidance on ways to donate or provide assistance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
