At their inaugural Charter Night celebration, the newly established Vancouver East Leo Club announced a $10,000 donation to Richmond Hospital Foundation in support of the POWER UP Campaign. The gift reflects the club’s mission to empower youth through leadership, experience, and opportunity—the very values that define the Leo ethos.

The Vancouver East Leo Club is a youth division of Lions Clubs International, offering young leaders the opportunity to serve their communities while developing valuable skills. Charter Night brought together youth from various schools to induct new members and install the club’s first board of directors. The evening concluded with the announcement of a donation to support technological advancements in the new Yurkovich Family Pavilion at Richmond Hospital.

Funds were raised through a series of youth-led initiatives, including arts and crafts charity sales, a donut fundraiser, and activities during Charter Night itself. The donation will help equip the hospital’s new acute care tower with future-forward tools that improve the patient experience and support the medical teams.

“Even as young people, we believe our voices and actions can also make meaningful change,” says Benny Lin, grade 11 student and charter president of Vancouver East Leo Club. “Supporting the Yurkovich Family Pavilion matters to us because it helps people in our community receive better care and access to the resources they need. Our club members are excited to continue collaborating on projects that strengthen community and make a positive impact.”

“We’re grateful to the Vancouver East Leo Club for their philanthropic support,” says Spencer Gall, chief philanthropy officer at Richmond Hospital Foundation. “Seeing young leaders step forward with such passion and purpose speaks volumes about the thoughtful leadership and compassion they bring to our community. Their generosity shows that leadership isn’t defined by age—it’s defined by heart, vision, and action. These youth are already making a difference, and we look forward to seeing how they will continue to help build a stronger, healthier future in Richmond and beyond.”
