Charming images of two Richmond pets – Porsha, a pomsky (husky x pomeranian) and Fluttershy, a cockatiel, have been selected from more than 36,000 entries to star in the 2026 Companions for Change calendar which raises funds for pets in need. Porsha’s photo, which is featured as the cover of the calendar, shows her participating in the local, annual RCMP charity toy drive, an event she never misses. Her pet parent Cheryl Kwok says Porsha is always ready for pets, new friends and tasty treats and she loves participating in family fundraising events. Fluttershy, a cute and adventurous cockatiel bird who loves to travel, stars as May. Her pet parent Livia Zheng says Fluttershy has visited numerous destinations including Jasper, White Rock and the Butchart Gardens, staying safe outdoors thanks to her bird leash.

Making the calendar was a highly competitive process. The top candidates were determined by public vote; nearly 10 million votes were cast during the week-long voting period. In addition to Porsha and Fluttershy, the calendar contains photos of 11 other Canadian pets including six other dogs, three cats, a leopard gecko and a guinea pig.

The calendar is available in all Bosley’s by Pet Valu® stores across British Columbia and the rest of Canada, outside of Quebec, for a give-what-you-can donation. One hundred per cent of the donations go to Pet Valu’s Companions for Change initiatives which have raised more than $32 million since 2011 to support animal rescues and charities across Canada, including British Columbia. This year, the Companions for Change program awarded an $81,000 Companions for Change sponsorship to Langley-based Just Four Paws to fund a new vehicle that can safely transport animals (up to 55 at a time) and supplies to and from remote communities. The Companions for Change program also awarded a $197,100 sponsorship to Tofino-based CARE Network Society to fund a bespoke vetmobile.

If you would like to speak with Cheryl or Livia about their pets or Alison Preiss from Pet Valu about why the images of Porsha and Fluttershy were so popular and how the Companions for Change program supports hundreds of pet-related organizations across Canada, including Just Four Paws and CARE Network, I can be reached
