A striking new artwork will soon welcome transit riders at Brighouse–Terminus Station, re-imagining the Canada Line as a vibrant waterway flowing through Richmond.

Tales in Current, by artist Linfeng Zhou, was installed on Tuesday, September 30 as part of the Art Plinth Program, which brings vibrancy and creative expression to the Canada Line’s concrete guideway.

Through its dynamic and abstract forms, the installation merges two profound stories associated with water. The first is the natural marvel of salmon spawning that occurs annually in the Fraser River. This upstream journey symbolizes resilience and determination. The second story is drawn from East Asian folklore, featuring koi fish leaping over a waterfall in their attempt to become a dragon; this mythological story symbolizes the pursuit of lofty goals against all odds.

The artwork will be on display for up to five years. Tales in Current is the fourth temporary artwork to be installed as part of the Art Plinth Program. The new artwork will replace Skydam by Nathan Lee, completed in 2016.

The City of Richmond acknowledges the support of InTransit BC and TransLink in allowing access to the Canada Line guideway to install the Art Plinth projects.
