In many ways, connecting with peers is more important today than ever. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, that also requires greater creativity.

Recognizing the importance of the annual BC Youth Week which begins tomorrow and continues through May 7, the City of Richmond has launched a new Instagram account—@CityofRichmondYouth. Further, to ensure connections happen during this period, the city along with community associations and societies are inviting youth to participate in a week of virtual events found at www.richmond.ca/youthweek.

While this year’s celebrations are different, there are still many creative and unique at-home and online activities planned. These include an online dance party led by a professional DJ, cool webinars with prizes to be won, and contests on the new Instagram account.

Mayor Malcolm Brodie is proud of the city’s youth.

“Richmond’s youth are resilient and contribute greatly to the community,” he says. “In light of COVID-19, staff have once again worked with our community partners to offer a variety of unique and creative Youth Week activities that still allow for socializing and connecting with peers, while being physically distant.”
