Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix issued a joint statement today on COVID-19. They urged people to stay safe over the weekend and continue to follow orders and guidelines.

“While our weekends are a time to unwind and relax, the exception is with these important health measures. As you get outside and safely spend time with loved ones, let’s continue to stay strong and show care and compassion to those around us, by ensuring we do not undo all of our hard work and sacrifice,” the statement read.

As of today, two employees have been confirmed positive in yesterday’s newly announced outbreak at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam, and 35 employees have been confirmed positive at United Poultry in Vancouver.

The Kearl Lake project in Alberta is associated with 10 confirmed positive cases. The Mission Institution federal correctional centre has had 78 inmates and staff test positive.

While there have been no new long-term care, assisted living or acute care outbreaks since yesterday, contact tracing continues at existing outbreaks, which will likely result in more confirmed cases in the coming days.

Dix and Henry announced 29 new cases today for a total of 1,853 confirmed cases in BC. A total of 98 people in the province have now died for reasons related to COVID-19.
