BC Youth Week is celebrated annually during the first week of May, and this year Richmond youth are invited to celebrate online.
The city has created a virtual event website: www.richmond.ca/youthweek. Many online activities are planned, including an online dance party with a professional DJ, webinars with prizes to be won and Instagram contests (@CityofRichmondYouth).
“Richmond’s youth are resilient and contribute greatly to the community,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “In light of COVID-19, staff have once again worked with our community partners to offer a variety of unique and creative Youth Week activities that still allow for socializing and connecting with peers while being physically distant.
This year’s activities include:
• May 1 at noon: Richmond U-ROC Awards Announcement, celebrating the achievements of Richmond residents
• May 1 from 8 to 10 p.m.: Dance party on Instagram live, with music mixed live by a professional DJ
• May 2 from noon to 4 p.m.: Careers in media arts webinar, via Zoom, with professional media artists
• May 4: Virtual Andanté Café talent show, with interested youth to email videos to myip@richmond.ca by April 27
• May 1-7: Youth workplace safety webinar and trivia on Instagram stories—for a chance to win prizes
• May 1-7: DIY series, where youth can learn to cook, craft and create via Instagram stories using supplies and materials commonly found at home
