As Canada Day approaches, Richmond RCMP is reminding residents to enjoy the festivities safely and responsibly.

With large crowds and increased traffic expected during the annual Steveston Salmon Festival on July 1st, Richmond RCMP will be increasing visible presence to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all. Officers will be conducting patrols in community areas, roadways, waterways, and festival venues to support public safety, manage traffic flow, and provide assistance when needed.

“Canada Day is a time to come together as a community and celebrate,” says Corporal Melissa Lui, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer. “We are proud to be a part of events like the Steveston Salmon Festival where we can engage with the community and promote safety for everyone.”

Richmond RCMP’s marine vessel, The Fraser Guardian, will also be patrolling Richmond waterways throughout the weekend to conduct enforcement and ensure safety for all water users.

Safety tips

  • Plan ahead: Consider taking public transit, ride share, or walking to events.
  • Stay hydrated and sun safe: Bring water and wear a hat and sunscreen when attending outdoor activities.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you see something concerning, report it to police or event security.
  • Drive sober: Whether on the road or in the water, never operate a vehicle impaired.
  • Plan ahead for a safe ride home with a designated driver, transit, or use a ride-share service.
