Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided COVID-19 updates today on two 24-hour reporting periods.

During the first period, April 11 to 12, BC had 25 new cases of COVID-19. In the last 24 hours there have been a further 20 new cases, for a total of 1,490 confirmed cases throughout the province.

Additionally, there have been 11 new COVID-19 related deaths—four in the first reporting period and seven since yesterday. In total, 69 people have died from COVID-19 related illness in BC.

Today marks the province’s 50th briefing since the start of the outbreak.

Henry said BC Ferries continues to report more than 80 per cent decline in travellers on all routes.

Enhanced border control support measures have now been fully activated, fulfilling requirements for all returning travellers to self-isolate for 14 days. As of today, 1,701 travellers have been screened.

“Keep doing what you are doing,” said Henry. “Remember, this is not forever. But it is for now. And what you’re doing is making a difference, so thank you for doing your part with kindness and with care.”
