Musicians whose work is impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are being supported by new provincial grants for live-streaming.

The provincial grants are a partnership with Creative BC. A new online hub called Showcase BC will allow people provincewide to view live performances, entertainment and content from their homes.

“Music has the power to lift us up and give us hope in times of crisis,” said Arts and Culture Minister Lisa Beare. “BC’s music industry responded swiftly by embracing opportunities to live-stream and bring people together online. Today, we’re stepping up to support their efforts.”

The online hub is accompanied by funding: grants of $500 for emerging artists and $2,000 for established artists. These costs are intended to help with live-streaming, songwriting and professional development.

All musicians previously eligible for Amplify BC grants will be offered funding through the new Showcase BC music funding stream. Grant performances can be accessed for free online.

A free live-stream concert will take place next week, featuring musicians from around the province. A lineup will be announced soon, and people can view the concert online.
