Richmond’s Jody Cranston won the 55 year old masters age category at the WABDL North American Bench Press and Deadlift Championships in Lynnwood, Washington on the weekend.

The strength athlete lifted an elite level 502 lbs Deadlift for his age category. “My first time deadlifting over 500 lbs was in 1996, almost 30 years ago in the 148 lbs open division. I am really happy to still be competing and still lifting over 500 lbs.”

Two months earlier on February 22 at the Washington State Powerlifting Championships in Seattle, Jody’s daughter Taila Cranston set the AAU Canadian Deadlift record with a lift of 220 lbs in the 17 year old teenage category at 103 lbs body weight.

“We are a father and daughter team that both compete in powerlifting” Cranston said. “I think it’s great that we both compete in the same sport at the same time.”

Cranston has previously held a BC Provincial Deadlift record and won a Gold Medal in the 1995 BC Winter Games for Powerlifting. His all time best deadlift is 590 lbs at 163 lbs body weight.
