Richmond RCMP host ceremony for official unveiling of two streets named in honour of Cst. Jimmy Ng who was killed in the line of duty while serving the City of Richmond on Sept. 15, 2002.

On April 10, 2025 Richmond RCMP hosted a ceremony to officially unveil two streets named by the City of Richmond in honour of Cst. Jimmy Ng: Cst. Jimmy Ng Road and Cst. Jimmy Ng Place.

This event was attended by numerous RCMP colleagues and troopmates of Cst. Ng. Dignitaries in attendance included the Honourable Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Richmond City Councillors and the Commanding Officer of BC RCMP, Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald.

Tribute:

For all Richmond RCMP officers this tribute is very meaningful as it ensures the continual remembrance of an individual amongst our ranks who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. The significance of this is even greater for those who had the honour of serving with him.

Jimmy was highly respected by both his fellow Constables and the Non-Commissioned officers of his watch. One former watchmate described him as a person they all looked up to, a cornerstone of the watch, a role model and friend to all. Jimmy was a true leader whose tragic loss was greatly felt by all those who worked with him.

Jimmy has been added to both the RCMP Honour Roll in Richmond and Regina, as well as the Police and Peace Officer Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Jimmy was also a volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, now the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue (RCMSAR) and a boat has been named in his honour.

“Today, we honour the memory of Constable Jimmy Ng, a dedicated officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. In naming these streets in his honour, we ensure his courage and commitment will never be forgotten. The City of Richmond is deeply grateful for our Richmond RCMP officers who work every day to make this community safer for all. We are proud of the work they do and fully appreciate their dedication” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

“We want to thank the City of Richmond for honouring Cst. Ng and the ultimate sacrifice he made serving and protecting his community. This initiative will ensure that Jimmy’s legacy of service is honoured and remembered not just by those that served alongside him but by the entire community he proudly called home” expressed chief superintendent Dave Chauhan, officer-in-charge of Richmond RCMP.

Jimmy was sworn into the RCMP on March 18, 1996 and was posted to Duncan Detachment prior to returning to his hometown of Richmond. Jimmy was survived by his parents, the now late Therese and Doctor Chris Ng.

Jimmy attended high school in Richmond, as well as the University of British Columbia. He was a dedicated police officer and citizen of Richmond. Jimmy was an active local volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Steveston, now the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR).

Jimmy will forever be remembered by those who had the opportunity to work with him. His final resting place is within the cemetery at Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan.
