Richmond residents whose lives are affected by mental illness can turn to Pathways Serious Mental Illness Society (PSMIS) for support during this difficult time. PSMIS, a charitable organization, has stepped up to serve British Columbians who need emotional support now more than ever.

In response to British Columbia declaring a provincial health emergency, residents across the lower mainland are adjusting their daily routines. These adjustments are affecting people from all walks of life, including those with a mental illness or those who have a loved one with a mental illness.

At the heart of the PSMIS operation is a Family Support Centre, providing personal support and education for local residents on major mental illnesses: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, borderline personality disorder, concurrent disorders and anxiety disorders.

Due to COVID-19, many people are experiencing fear and anxiety. PSMIS is here to serve family members who are supporting someone with a serious mental illness.

PSMIS’ online and telephone support services are available to Richmond residents, as well as free one-on-one support through email, phone or Zoom sessions.

PSMIS knows the importance of checking in with you and your loved one during this unprecedented time. PSMIS is here to help.

PSMIS is offering online support groups, via Zoom, at the following dates and times. These are available to anyone in the province.

• Thursday, April 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, April 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
• Friday, May 1 from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
• Thursday, May 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

After May 14, PSMIS will offer support each week for an hour and a half. Their monthly schedule is as follows:

• First Friday of the month at 12 p.m.
• Second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
• Third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.
• Last Saturday of the month at 10 a.m.

Please email Pathways at info@pathwayssmi.org for any questions or concerns about these support groups.

During a global pandemic, support services are needed more than ever. PSMIS is a volunteer-led charity.

All donations will directly fund their online support programs and help the families of those with a serious mental illness cope through these trying times. Your support today is helping your community tomorrow.
