During this time of need, food banks are a community staple.
Thanks to a $3 million emergency grant from the Community Gaming Grants program, BC food banks will be able to continue supporting vulnerable British Columbians.
Food Banks BC will assess food banks’ needs and requirements and distribute the funding among food banks across the province. The funds will help food banks buy and distribute food, pay employees, and cover other essential costs.
“This is wonderful news. It is definitely going to help our food bank respond to the growing need, because I feel that we are in this for the long haul,” says Richmond Food Bank executive director Hajira Hussain.
She adds that donations have gone down, so this funding is especially helpful in order for the food bank to continue to offer services that people need.
While there are no further details on the recently-announced funding, Hussain says Food Banks BC always puts members first.
