Stay safe and informed against COVID-19

The past weeks have been very challenging, but through it, you are already seeing the incredible resolve and care that so many British Columbians are taking to combat COVID-19.

Those most vulnerable — those with compromised immunity and senior citizens — are counting on every single one of us to do our part as a community. That is why we have to do everything that we can, whether we are in high-risk groups or not, to prevent infection and avoid spreading the virus.

As we practice self-isolation and physical distancing, on top of rigorous handwashing, please make a point of checking in with your friends, family, and neighbours — at a safe distance — during this difficult time. Phone calls and FaceTime are a great option too.

Use calm, common sense over the following weeks.

Canada may have closed its borders to non-residents, but our trade and commerce remain open and running smoothly, so there is no need to hoard goods. Our supply chains are very much intact.

Both the provincial and federal governments are providing supports for those who lost their jobs and facing housing challenges.

Misinformation is also something that can cause panic and anxiety. So please continue to consult reliable sources like the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, and briefings by Dr. Bonnie Henry for the most accurate and up-to-date information on COVID-19.

We want to personally thank all of the essential workers and healthcare staff who are showing us true leadership and resolve under pressure.

This is a time for all of us to act in unison for one common goal. So stay home, support local merchants if and when possible and do your part to flatten the curve.
