With resiliency, equity, adaptation and completeness as the themes for the City of Richmond’s Official Community Plan (OCP) Update, which is currently underway, there is an upcoming opportunity for community members to learn more and provide input.

Come out and meet city staff at one of four drop-in style, in-person open houses at various locations in Richmond over the next two weeks, or visit the project online.

Richmond’s OCP outlines the city’s long-term goals and objectives around land use policies to the year 2050. The current updates we’re undertaking include a focus on housing affordability, climate change, equity and environmental protection. With Richmond residents and community organizations participating at this early stage, we are able to include valuable input on strategic and sustainable growth which supports long-term community needs for a well-planned and prosperous city.

There are a number of ways to participate:

  • In-person open houses: Attend a drop-in style open house to talk with staff members, and review display boards. Learn about early ideas and the next steps.
    • Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton Street)
    • Thursday, Nov. 21 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Richmond Public Library, Brighouse Branch (100-7700 Minoru Gate)
    • Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thompson Community Centre (5151 Granville Ave)
    • Thursday, Nov. 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at East Richmond Community Hall (12360 Cambie Road)

Online: Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca/ocp2050 to learn more, and ask questions. An online survey will be available from Wednesday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Dec. 22.

  • Get Snapping photo sharing: Local residents are invited to take part in the city-wide opportunity to celebrate their favourite place(s) in Richmond. Photo entries will be entered into a draw to win prizes. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024. Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca/get-snapping to learn more.

The current OCP to the year 2041 was adopted in 2012. Since then, it has been updated in specific sections to reflect Richmond’s population and economy growth, as well as other external social and environmental factors.
