The Richmond Museum is excited to present Canada, Here We Are!, a travelling exhibit from the Royal BC Museum, about the unique contributions of Ukrainian Canadians to our country. This interesting exhibit, including Ukrainian Easter eggs, textiles and a traditional bread and salt offering, is now on display in the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate).
Created in partnership between the Royal BC Museum and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Vancouver, Canada, Here We Are! looks at and celebrates the more than 1.3 million Canadians who can trace their ancestry to Ukraine, Ukrainian Canadian history and culture. The exhibit highlights the enduring impact Ukrainians have on life in Canada.
Richmond’s Ukrainian Community Society of Ivan Franko worked with the Richmond Museum, generously loaning artefacts to complete the exhibition.
"We are honoured and proud to have Canada, Here We Are! presented at the Richmond Museum,” says Natalie Jatskevich, vice president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – National Council. “This exhibit helps Canadians and newcomers to this great country to understand the most important steps of our community's 131 years long journey in Canada and the most significant contributions made to enriching Canada's multicultural landscape and strengthening its social, cultural and economic life. This exhibit also presents a wonderful opportunity for Ukrainian Canadians to reflect on their rich heritage and culture and the ways of giving back to the land where they have made their homes."
The exhibition first came to life in 2016 as Bread & Salt to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Ukrainians in Canada and was updated in 2022.
Canada, Here We Are! is on display at the Richmond Museum until Jan. 22, 2025.
