MyRichmond—the one-stop online portal to access many city services such as recreation program registration, taxes and utilities, permitting, licensing and emergency notifications—now has enhanced log in and security features along with a refreshed look. These enhancements are part of the city’s ongoing commitment to provide a higher degree of protection of customer data and information, and adopt leading technology.

Effective today (June 3), logging into MyRichmond requires an added step of authentication. MyRichmond account holders need to enter a one-time 6-digit password that will be sent to their account email.

Each log in attempt onwards will require two-factor authentication. This enables protection against potential data breaches through account compromises where, in many cases, people use the same passwords across many systems.

Once logged in, account holders can opt-in for the convenience of using a passkey (e.g. face scan or Personal Identification Number [PIN] saved on the customer’s personal computer or smartphone) for subsequent log ins. Passkey authentication provides the most seamless user experience and is both the recommended and easiest security alternative.

Account holders:

  • must have access to the email address used to log in to MyRichmond.
  • should familiarize themselves with the enhanced log in process now so when they wish to register for a course or use other MyRichmond services, they will be able to immediately and seamlessly proceed with their task.
  • who use the MyRichmond app should update it through the App Store or Play Store before proceeding with two-factor authentication.
