Provincial charity AutismBC has launched their biggest fundraising event of the year offering a chance for someone in BC to win a brand-new car.
For the fourth year in a row, Applewood Auto Group has donated a vehicle to the AutismBC Raffle and 50/50, proceeds of which support autism initiatives across the province.
The grand prize is a Kia Sportage LX, courtesy of Applewood Auto Group, with second and early bird prizes of a Fitbit Versa 4 Smartwatch and an HP Chromebook donated by Sport Chek and Staples Canada. Other raffle sponsors that have returned to support the charity include Quality Foods, Allwest Insurance, Pawlik Automotive, G&F Financial Group, Prospera Credit Union, Katcom Media, and Daily Hive.
The charity says that the demand for autism services and programs continues to grow. Today in BC, 1 in 29 children between the ages of 6-18 have an autism diagnosis, up from 1 in 32 last year.
It is estimated that over 180,000 adults and children in the province are on the spectrum. AutismBC serves approximately 7,000 people a year in BC with information, workshops, social connections, and local support from regional resource teams. The charity relies on donations and fundraisers like the raffle each year to fund their programs and ensure they can serve the community with the greatest impact.
"Our programs help autistic people and their families access reliable information and supports and help communities to become more inclusive and accepting," says Julia Boyle, executive director of AutismBC. "We are so grateful to our sponsors like Applewood Auto Group, and to ticket buyers for their support. Charities and non-profits like us are more vulnerable during these uncertain economic times and the funds we raise from our annual raffle and 50/50 are critical to funding programs that benefit autistic children, youth, and adults across the province."
The early bird draw for the raffle is this Friday with a deadline of Thursday August 10 at midnight for tickets. The AutismBC Raffle and 50/50 presented by Applewood Auto Group runs until September 22. Tickets for the raffle start $20 for the raffle and $10 for the 50/50 and can be purchased online at autismbc.ca/raffle
