In our latest installment of Sentinel's Pick, we will be highlighting a restaurant built on noodles, that's sure to warm your stomach over the winter.

If you are a ramen lover and don't want to go all the way downtown for a hot bowl of an authentic Japanese dish, you’ll be happy to know it’s now available in Richmond.

Originating in Hokkaido, Ramen Taka Notsume recently opened at Aberdeen Centre.

We really like their Paitan broth with a rich, creamy umami flavour. And the noodles are cooked to the perfect texture we prefer. Staff tells us that the Paitan broth is simmered with pork bones, dried fish and vegetables for hours before serving.

If you visit between 3 and 5 p.m. on a weekday, you can enjoy 30 per cent off on all ramen, sides and drinks. They also have a "Giga Challenge" in which five portions of ramen are served in a huge bowl (Giga Dragon Ramen). If you are able to finish the whole bowl, including the broth in 30 minutes, your meal is free. Check out their website for details.

Sentinel’s Recommendation:

Reliable choice (first timer): "Paitan Dragon Shoyu"

Rich umami choice: "Paitan Dragon Miso"

Spicy choice: "Shrimpy Gragon Miso" (limited to 10 bowls/day) and "Flaming Dragon Spicy Miso"
