The Richmond Kajaks Track and Field Club, in cooperation with the City of Richmond will be hosting the 53rd annual B.C. Elementary Track and Field Championships. The event will be taking place on May 26 to 28 at the Clement Track and Collier Throwing Centre at Minoru Park.

All students in grades 3 to 7, will be able to participate in the event, with no qualifying or experience necessary. All elementary students from private and public schools are welcome.

Participants can choose to register individually or with their school team. They will also be able to choose the events they would like to compete in. Ribbons, medals, and awards will be awarded in running, jumping, and throwing events. The meet will go on as planned, rain or shine, but if there is rain, the high jump will be moved indoors to the arena, if this is the case some high jump events may need to be moved later or to the next day.

This years friendly competition will hopefully be a stepping stone for the upcoming athletes to experience the largest elementary track meet after their own zone meets. “As most students in the lower mainland districts are competing in their own zone meets, it would be a great finisher for them to come to the biggest elementary track meet where they can experience a fun, safe competition with participants from different parts of B.C.” said Kajaks executive board member Lanie Man.
