Takasaki urging focus in today's Canada Games semifinal
Team BC’s rockstars are on a mission at the Canada Winter
Games. But Hailey Takasaki says staying focused is a must if the province’s
ringette team is to play for gold Friday.
The Richmond athlete scored one of her team’s
four goals as Team BC held on for a 4-3 victory over Team New Brunswick in
quarter-final ringette play. Takasaki and her teammates will play Team Ontario
(8-6 winners over Team Alberta) at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time today (Thursday, Feb.
21) in Red Deer for the chance to play in the championship game.
“Going into the next game we will need to
stay focused, rely on each other and know each other's role on the team. And
take some deep breaths,” she said.
Team Manitoba and Team Quebec won Wednesday’s
other quarter-final games.
In other Canada Games news featuring Team BC
athletes, Richmond’s David Lin and his partner Patrina Hui of Burnaby lost to
host Alberta, 3 games to 2, in table tennis mixed doubles Feb. 19 but bounced
back to defeat Nova Scotia 3-0 to place fifth.
In men’s singles play, Lin (after receiving a
bye into the round of 32) won nine games in a row (3-0 over Daniel Zhao of
Prince Edward Island, 3-0 over Alberta’s Daniel Jiang and 3-0 over Nova Scotia’s
Ben Robertson) to reach the quarter-finals. Lin then rolled to another 3-0
victory over Sam Orend of Ontario before falling to Edward Ly of Quebec by the
same count in the semifinals. Lin will play Tommy Xu of Quebec in today’s
bronze medal match.
Lin earlier helped Team BC win bronze in the
men’s team event.
