Burnett Secondary to host public gala concert on May 1

Burnett Secondary will be hosting a Music Monday May band concert on May 1, 2023 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The event will be taking place at J.N. Burnett Secondary, outside weather permitting. Music Monday is held each year on the first Monday in May to recognize the importance of music in the lives of Canadians. Since 2005, hundreds of thousands of children, youth, teachers, parents, and community members across Canada join TogetherinHarmony organized by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada.
On May 1st, Burnett Secondary will welcome the public to celebrate the power of music through extraordinary performances of students in the Burnett music program and community guests, and to realize the importance of advocating for quality music education for all Canadian students. The gala will be recorded for the Coalition for Music Education in Toronto, who will share the event via the internet with the world.
Performing groups in the Burnett music program include the guitar class, the developing, jazz, and concert bands. Marcato Youth Community Band, Thursday Thriller Guests from Wowk Elementary, and the adult community band - Brass, Wind, and Wire, will also be present. All bands will be conducted by band director, Brenda Khoo.
There will be no entrance fee to the concert but a donation bucket will be present. A bake sale and refreshments will also be made available for purchase. All profit raised by the bake sale and refreshments will be shared to fund performing bands.
