The City of Richmond along with Green Communities Canada and the Garden City Conservation Society are coming together to plant the first mini forest on park property in western Canada.
Working in collaboration with the federal government and local community organizations, the mini forest planting uses techniques that emphasize dense plantings of diverse native species designed to mimic the complexity of natural forests. As a result, mini forests grow quickly and provide many environmental benefits including increasing biodiversity and providing valuable wildlife habitat. The forest planting is the signature event in the city’s Earth Week celebrations.
You are invited to attend and also participate in the volunteer planting.
Hear final details of the project and how it fits into the city’s commitments to the environment and the City of Richmond Earth Day celebrations, by acting mayor, Alexa Loo, Member of Parliament (MP) Wilson Miao and Green Communities Canada representatives. MP Parm Bains and other dignitaries will also be in attendance.
Date: Saturday, April 22
Time: 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Location: Outdoors, in west Richmond near the Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment Park.
