B.C. reports COVID-19 data from Jan. 1 to 7

In the past week (Jan. 1 to 7) there were 661 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C., bringing the overall total to 393,804 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 142 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 224 in the Fraser Health region, 104 in the Island Health region, 168 in the Interior Health region, and 23 in the Northern Health region.

The number of new cases the previous week (Dec. 25 to 31) decreased by two to 691.

As of today, there are 302 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in B.C., 25 of whom are in critical care.

There were 155 new hospital admissions in the past week (Jan. 1 to 7). Of those, 32 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 61 in the Fraser Health region, 31 in the Island Health region, 25 in the Interior Health region, and six in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 admissions in the previous week (Dec. 25 to 31) increased to 226 from the 123 originally reported last week.

There were 36 new critical care admissions in the past week (Jan. 1 to 7). Of those, 10 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 14 in the Fraser Health region, four in the Island Health region, five in the Interior Health region, and three in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of critical care admissions in the previous week (Dec. 25 to 31) increased to 48 from the 45 originally reported last week.

The 30-day all-cause mortality report, which includes COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related deaths occurring within 30 days from a positive lab result, indicates there were 28 deaths between Jan. 1 and 7.

Of those who died, four lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, eight in the Fraser Health region, seven in the Island Health region, nine in the Interior Health region, and zero in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the previous week (Dec. 25 to 31) increased to 37 from the 13 originally reported last week. Deaths the previous week (Dec. 18 to 24) increased by nine to 59.
