Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is preparing for winter weather conditions at the airport today.

Weather models are expecting accumulation as early as late this morning, with more significant snowfall amounts this afternoon and into the evening. The airport is preparing its 80 pieces of snow response equipment, which for the first time this year includes an electric de-icing truck.

Passengers are encouraged to leave extra time for getting to the airport, checking in, and clearing security. Passengers are also encouraged to check the status of their flight on their airline’s website or the flight information on yvr.ca before coming to the airport.

Delays can happen for a variety of reasons, including inclement weather in other parts of the province or country. People who are driving should leave extra time getting to the airport, whether flying out or picking up a passenger. People can also consider taking the Canada Line to the airport.

Current weather models show the temperature will remain below freezing during the day and overnight. At this time, between 15-18 centimetres of accumulation is expected this afternoon and into tonight. This is expected to turn into rain by tomorrow morning.
