Richmond–Steveston MLA Kelly Greene’s constituency office is getting in the festive spirit by participating in the Steveston Scarecrow Crawl, organized annually by the Steveston Merchants Association.
“I think it’s a really great initiative—it really makes the village come alive, engages the community, and reminds folks why small businesses matter,” says Greene.
Her team’s scarecrow is called Miss Bayview Glitter. It includes a pride flag to highlight their office as a safe place in the community, offering resources to those in need.
“We wanted her to be colourful, vibrant, and reflective of the kind of community that we have, which is very diverse,” says Greene. “We also wanted to be able to include elements that spoke to the diversity of gender expression, because it’s important for us to support all members of the community. There have been some instances where folks are marginalized because of their gender identity or sexual orientation, and we want to make sure that everybody feels safe in our community.”
Greene and her constituency team worked on the scarecrow together, and they are excited to participate in the beloved community event.
“We want folks to know that we’re here and available for any of their questions for provincial issues, and that we’re approachable and very happy to help,” says Greene. “I live in the riding, so this is my community too.”
Greene’s constituency office is located at 115–4011 Bayview St. Constituents can reach Greene and her team by phone at (604) 241-8452 or by email at kelly.greene.MLA@leg.bc.ca.
