Library hosting teen poetry contest
Are you a poet, but didn’t know it?
Richmond Public Library is reaching out to
teens 15 to 18 to submit original work in the 12th annual Teen Poetry Writing
Contest that runs through April 30.
Honouring National Poetry Month, celebrated
each year by the League of Canadian Poets, a national non-profit organization
established in 1966 to support and promote poetry.
There are two categories in the library
contest:
• Group 1 for ages 12 to 15
• Group 2 for ages 16 to 18
Any format of original poetry will be
accepted, but cannot be longer than one single-spaced typed page.
“We’re encouraging Richmond teens to put
their creative thinking caps on this month and submit their own original poem
for a chance to win a gift card,” says Stephanie Vokey, co-ordinator, marketing
and public relations for Richmond Public Library.
There will be two prizes for each category:
first place will be awarded a $25 gift card to Richmond Centre and second place
a $10 gift card.

Judging will be on the creativity, clarity,
originality and literary merit or message of the poem.
