As the city progresses through the character design phase of the new Steveston Community Centre and library branch, it is offering a number of opportunities for the public to learn about the proposed concept for the building’s exterior character.

The replacement of the Steveston Community Centre and library was identified by city council as a priority major facility project for the period of 2016 to 2026. Council has approved the program, site location, and floor plans for the new facility, as well as a budget of $90 million to complete the design and construction of the facility.

Development of the character design is the next major step in the facility’s development. The new facility will serve the community into the future supporting the physical, wellness, life-long learning, and creative needs of those who live, work, and play in Steveston and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The city is inviting the public to participate in one of the following public engagement opportunities to learn about the proposed character design and to provide feedback:

• Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca to review display boards and complete the online survey by 11:59 p.m. on June 7.

• Drop-in to an open house at the Steveston Community Centre and Branch Library at 4100 Moncton Street where city staff and project architects will be available to answer questions. Open houses are being held on May 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. and June 1 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

• Visit the city’s booth at the Steveston Farmers and Artisan Market at 4320 Moncton Street. City staff and project architects will be available to answer questions on May 22 and June 5 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm
