B.C. health officials reported 254 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 351,141 cases.
A B.C. government news release notes that the total number of cases has only increased by 200 from yesterday, which has resulted in no new cases reported in Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health and a decrease in the overall total number of cases in these health authorities compared to yesterday. This is due to data reconciliation from the preliminary numbers reported yesterday.
Of the new cases, zero are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), zero in the Fraser Health region, 69 in the Island Health region, 131 in the Interior Health region, 54 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 419 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 63 are in intensive care.
To date, 11,382,631 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,312,590 of those are second doses and 2,607,514 are third doses.
This means that 93.7 per cent of adults, 93.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.7 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.2 per cent of adults, 90.8 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 86.5 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 58.2 per cent of adults and 56.3 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.
Sadly, there was one new COVID-related death reported today, bringing that total to 2,915. The person who died lived in the Fraser Health region.
Health authorities reported three health-care facility outbreaks over. Active outbreaks continue at 12 long-term care facilities, one assisted or independent living facility, and one acute care facility.
Due to a delayed refresh in BC Centre for Disease Control data, the update on cases and hospitalizations by vaccination status is unavailable today.
