COVID-19 in B.C. today: 782 new cases, five deaths

B.C. health officials reported 782 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 343,064 cases.

The numbers of new and total cases are provisional due to a delayed data refresh, according to a B.C. government news release.

Of the new cases, 132 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 226 in the Fraser Health region, 122 in the Island Health region, 191 in the Interior Health region, 111 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 744 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 120 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,196,470 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,261,431 of those are second doses and 2,482,432 are third doses. 

This means that 93.5 per cent of adults, 93.1 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.5 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.0 per cent of adults, 90.5 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 85.5 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 56.0 per cent of adults and 53.6 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were five new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,781. Of those who died, three lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region and two in the Northern Health region. One reported death was also removed from the provincial total due to a data correction.

Health authorities reported three new health-care facility outbreaks and declared seven over. Active outbreaks continue at 29 long-term care facilities and three acute care facilities.

From Feb. 9 to 15, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 22.4 per cent of cases.
From Feb. 2 to 15, they accounted for 31.4 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 1,113 (18.7 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 220 (3.7 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 4,610 (77.6 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Feb. 2-15) - Total 915

• Not vaccinated: 250 (27.3 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 37 (4.1 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 628 (68.6 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 9 to 15)

• Not vaccinated: 272.6

• Partially vaccinated: 88.9

• Fully vaccinated: 102.2

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 2 to 15)

• Not vaccinated: 67.3

• Partially vaccinated: 32.5

• Fully vaccinated: 13.4
