COVID-19 in B.C. today: 750 cases, 11 deaths

B.C. health officials reported 750 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 342,282 cases.

Of the new cases, 93 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 167 in the Fraser Health region, 105 in the Island Health region, 277 in the Interior Health region, 108 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

Locally, there were 109 new cases in Richmond last week (Feb. 6 to 12) according to data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, down from 164 the previous week (Jan. 30 to Feb. 5).

There are 762 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 and 121 are in intensive care.

To date, 11,176,710 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,256,399 of those are second doses and 2,468,653 are third doses. 

This means that 93.5 per cent of adults, 93.1 per cent of people aged 12 and older, and 90.4 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 91.0 per cent of adults, 90.5 per cent of those aged 12 and older, and 85.4 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 55.7 per cent of adults and 53.3 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were 11 new COVID-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,777. Of those who died, five lived in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, one in the Interior Health region, and one in the Northern Health region.

Health authorities reported three health-care facility outbreaks over. Active outbreaks continue at 32 long-term care facilities, two assisted or independent living facilities, and two acute care facilities.

From Feb. 8 to 14, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 22.8 per cent of cases and from Feb. 1 to 14 they accounted for 32.1 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Fully vaccinated: 4,970 (77.2 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 267 (28.0 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 39 (4.1 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 648 (67.9 per cent)

• Not vaccinated: 288.1

• Partially vaccinated: 97.1

• Fully vaccinated: 109.8

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Feb. 1 to 14)

• Not vaccinated: 72.1

• Partially vaccinated: 32.9

• Fully vaccinated: 13.8
