Highway 99 bike lane under construction

By Richmond Sentinel

Richmond cyclists, take heed: the northbound bike lane on the Oak Street Bridge is closed through September.

The area is also closed to pedestrians. There is an alternate route across the Fraser River via the Canada Line bridge or, for experienced cyclists, the Arthur Laing bridge.

The closure is due to the ongoing Highway 99 Tunnel Program, which is completing transit and cycling improvements in advance of the Massey Tunnel replacement. The new bus connection will provide bus-only access from Bridgeport Road to Highway 99 southbound, in addition to new active transportation infrastructure.

Other construction changes include:

• Eastbound lane modifications on Bridgeport Road

• Lane shifts from Sea Island Way onto the Highway 99 on-ramp

• Heavy equipment, construction vehicles, and additional lighting

• Reduced speed limits in construction zones

Traffic closures or delays will be posted on DriveBC.ca
