COVID-19 in B.C. today: 1,236 cases, nine deaths

B.C. health officials reported 1,236 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 325,851 cases.

Of the new cases, 212 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 253 in the Fraser Health region, 188 in the Island Health region, 406 in the Interior Health region, 171 in the Northern Health region and six new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 28,302 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 1,035 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital, 139 of whom are in intensive care. 

To date, 10,779,487 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 4,187,417 of those are second doses and 2,152,427 are third doses. 

This means that 93.1 per cent of adults, 92.7 per cent of people aged 12 and older and 89.9 per cent of people aged five and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 90.5 per cent of adults, 90.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older and 84 per cent of those aged five and older have received two doses; 49.7 per cent of adults and 46.4 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received three doses.

Sadly, there were nine new virus-related deaths reported today, bringing that total to 2,625. All nine people who died lived in the Fraser Health region.

Health authorities reported two new health-care facility outbreaks and declared five over. Active outbreaks continue at 45 long-term care facilities, three assisted or independent living facilities and seven acute care facilities.

From Jan. 24 to 30, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 25.3 per cent of cases.

From Jan. 17 to 30, they accounted for 30.8 per cent of hospitalizations.

• Not vaccinated: 2,260 (20.4 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 543 (4.9 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 8,265 (74.7 per cent)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Jan. 17 to 30)—Total 1,129

• Not vaccinated: 297 (26.3 per cent)

• Partially vaccinated: 51 (4.5 per cent)

• Fully vaccinated: 781 (69.2 per cent)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 24 to 30)

• Not vaccinated: 418.2

• Partially vaccinated: 166.6

• Fully vaccinated: 216.5

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Jan. 17 to 30)

• Not vaccinated: 75.4

• Partially vaccinated: 41.5

• Fully vaccinated: 16.7
