The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says one of the four family members who died in a Richmond shooting this week appears to have been the shooter.

IHIT continues to analyze evidence found at the scene at the 4500 block of Garden City Road. Homicide investigators have confirmed that the victims are from a single family: a 71-year-old father, 58-year-old mother, and 23- and 21-year-old adult children. The victims’ names are not being released as extended family have requested privacy.

Homicide investigators confirmed that this does not appear to be an incident of partner violence. At this time, evidence uncovered suggests this was a murder-suicide, however, final confirmation is not possible until ballistics are analyzed and autopsies are completed.

“Factors leading up to this shooting are still being determined,” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT. “People are searching for answers and asking if there were signs. We hope to provide more answers in days to come.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
