Four people were found dead inside a Richmond residence last night, police have confirmed.

Richmond RCMP officers responded to the 4500 block of Garden City Road in response to a complaint. When they arrived, they found four deceased people inside the home who were later confirmed to be victims of a shooting, according to a news release.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to investigate and secured the scene. It is now being examined by homicide investigators with help from the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroners Service.

“It is a traumatic incident the community is waking up to,” said Sgt. David Lee of IHIT. “Our investigators are scouring the area looking for information as this event unfolds. We hope to provide the community with answers soon.”

According to IHIT, initial information gathered indicates that this is a targeted shooting, but not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict. The identities of the victims are not being released at this time, but they are believed to have known each other.

IHIT continues to process the scene and canvass for witnesses and CCTV. It is believed that the shooting occurred on Monday (Jan. 24) around 7 p.m. Homicide investigators are seeking witnesses who were in the area of Garden City Road near Odlin and Leslie roads and saw or heard anything suspicious.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
